Record price for lambs at Winter Fair
Records tumbled at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair on Tuesday with the sale of the champion pair pair of lambs for £3,400 each, the highest price ever paid for sheep at the event.
The lambs, Beltex x Beltex x from noted breeders Michael and Heulwen Owens of Pontsian, Llandysul, Ceredigion who had claimed the supreme championship for the third time at the Fair. The winning lambs were purchased by Welsh Country Foods on behalf of Asda for one of their stores in the West Midlands.

The supreme champion beast, Tommy, a limousine steer exhibited by Glyn Owens of Llanrhaeadr, Denbigh, who officially opened the Winter Fair on Monday sold for £6,500 to the judge Tom Hughes, of Hughes Butchers, Anglesey.
The reserve supreme winner, Miss Stress, a British Blonde sired heifer exhibited by Berwyn Hughes of Lampeter, sold for £3,000 to Aberystwyth butcher, Robert Rattray.

Other than Guide Dogs, visitors are encouraged not to bring their dogs to the Winter Fair, but if it is essential to do so dogs must be kept on a lead the whole time and are restricted from entering the buildings.

The
